It’s the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon strolling around and soaking up the local vibe.
For a more alternative and bohemian feel, head to the De Pijp neighborhood. Here, you’ll find a bustling market, the famous Albert Cuyp Market, as well as a variety of international restaurants and bars. This neighborhood is also home to the Heineken Experience, a must-visit for beer lovers.

No trip to Amsterdam is complete without trying some of the local delicacies. And no, I’m not talking about the space cakes. While they are certainly a popular choice among tourists, there’s so much more to Dutch cuisine than just that. For a truly local experience, try some stroopwafels, a thin waffle cookie filled with caramel syrup. Or how about some bitterballen, deep-fried meatballs served with mustard sauce? Trust me, you won’t regret it.
If you’re feeling brave, you can also try some raw herring, a traditional Dutch snack. It may sound a bit strange, but it’s actually quite tasty – just make sure to follow the locals’ lead and eat it with chopped onions and pickles.
Escape the Crowds

One of my favorite things to do is to visit the local markets, such as the Noordermarkt or the Waterlooplein flea market. Here, you can find everything from vintage clothing to unique souvenirs, and it’s a great way to support local businesses.
If you’re a fan of art, you can’t miss the Rijksmuseum, home to some of the most famous Dutch masterpieces, including Rembrandt’s “The Night Watch”. And for a more modern twist, check out the Moco Museum, featuring works by contemporary artists like Banksy and Salvador Dali.

Amsterdam is known for its vibrant nightlife, and there’s no shortage of bars, clubs, and cafes to choose from. But if you want to party like a local, you have to experience a Dutch “borrel”. A borrel is a traditional get-together with friends, where you chat, drink, and snack on some bitterballen and other bar bites. One of my favorite places to have a borrel is at Hannekes Boom, a laid-back bar with a beautiful view of the canals.
For a more lively atmosphere, head to the Leidseplein area, where you’ll find a variety of bars and clubs. And if you’re feeling adventurous, why not try some Dutch jenever, a traditional liquor that comes in many different flavors.
